Learning objectives

Learning Outcomes: Professional laboratories represent opportunities for interactive and simulated teaching aimed at facilitating the application of clinical-care, educational, advanced assessment and research methodologies referring to specific nursing and midwifery health care contexts and problems. They prepare students for the internship experience and to develop methodologies for reflection and reworking of the experience. These workshops are conducted in small groups, at times previously defined, and led by a supervising faculty member.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Prerequisites: content from three-year university education and covered in modules related to the professional laboratories module.

Program

Bibliographic research: use of the PubMed database starting from a foreground query; use of databases through the 6S pyramid model and management systems for systematic reviews such as Rayyan.
Respiratory assessment: sequence and correct method of respiratory assessment, including physical examination with palpation, percussion, and auscultation. Interpretation of the main dry and wet breath sounds: breath sounds, crackles, rales, rhonchi, wheezing, pleural rub.
Bedside ultrasound: landmarks for screening ultrasound of the vascular, respiratory, abdominal, and cardiac systems. Interpretation of normal vascular, respiratory, abdominal, and cardiac characteristics.
Case study: Managing complex clinical care situations – person with diabetes. Apply advanced assessment skills aimed at understanding and managing complex problems, judgment, and evidence-based decision-making in complex situations; ability to justify clinical care choices and therapeutic education methodologies. Select indicators to evaluate the impact on outcomes and processes. Home noninvasive ventilation. Set up home NIV.
