The teaching is organized as follows:

Learning objectives

Objectives of the course are:
• acquisition of basic and theoretical knowledge on the preparation and dispensing of medicines
• knowledge and skills related to the preparation of the various pharmaceutical formulations and eccipients
• learning of the quality control procedures of the preparation from both analytical and bioavailability point of view
• knowledge of innovative formulations of delivery, release, and site-specificity of the drug
• knowledge on magister and medicinal galenic preparations: planning, preparation, conservation and shipment of the galenic preparation, quality control, pricing; the organization of a galenic laboratory.
• Acquisition of knowledge relating to the European and national legislation of the pharmaceutical service, drugs, recipes and dispensing.

Prerequisites and basic notions

For effective training, it is recommended to attend the courses in Pharmaceutical Chemistry I, Drug Analysis I and Pharmacology and Toxicology at the same time.

Learning assessment procedures

Written exam with 30 open and closed questions.

Evaluation criteria

The final mark (out of thirty) will depend on an overall evaluation of the oral interview, (starting from the score of 18/30 gained in the written test) on the contents of the course in terms of knowledge of the topics and ability to critically use the notions acquired.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

Examination
The final exam assesses the knowledge and skills relevant to professional practice in community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and the pharmaceutical industry and health products.
The exam consists of:
- Practical test: formulation, preparation, pricing, and labeling of a compounded medicinal product, along with a written report justifying the formulation choices and preparation procedures. This test evaluates the student's practical skills and competence. During the test, students may use digital resources and textbooks provided by the instructors. The use of personal materials is not permitted. Failing the practical test precludes access to the oral exam.
- Oral exam: begins with a discussion of the practical test and expands to cover all course topics. Failing the oral exam results in failing the entire course exam.
The final grade, expressed in thirtieths, is based equally on:
- performance in the practical test;
- the ability to address any issues raised during the discussion of the practical test;
- the responses given on general course topics.
