Learning objectives

The training objective is to provide the elements on the current regulations on medical devices (DM); the functioning principles and rationale for use; the basic skills for use for different indications; the competence and criteria for choosing between substance-based and drug-based or diagnostic DMs to evaluate common clinical conditions, including devices for:
• blood pressure measurement;
• lung capacity measurement by self-spirometry;
• non-invasive measurement of percentual oxygen saturation;
• electrocardiograms with remote cardiology mode
• others

Prerequisites and basic notions

For effective training, it is recommended that you attend the course after having attended the courses in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Technology and laboratory.

Program

The program is composed as follows: - the national health organization - the profession of Pharmacist and the professional Order - the practice of pharmacy - the hospital pharmacy and the territorial pharmaceutical organization - the disengagement of the pharmaceutical service - the dispensing of medicines to the public - the medicine of industrial origin - the galenic medicine - medicines containing narcotic and psychotropic substances - pharmacoeconomics (fundamentals) - medical devices and in vitro diagnostics, PMCs - foods

Didactic methods

Teaching is structured through lectures (48 hours). Learning is encouraged through ongoing student involvement, discussing the practical implications of the topics and concepts covered. Classroom exercises are included to apply the theoretical foundations to practical examples of evaluating medical prescription shipments.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam consists of an oral examination covering the course material. During the examination, students are asked to address a general topic, which is then progressively compared to specific competing standards. Students are then encouraged to develop critical thinking and independent judgment in applying the standards covered to specific professional issues in the fields of pharmacoeconomics, drug regulation, medical device regulation, and the organization and performance of pharmaceutical services. The exam aims to assess the student's acquired knowledge relevant to the professional activity they will pursue in the retail pharmacy sector, hospital pharmacy, and in the industrial and intermediate distribution sectors.

Evaluation criteria

a) completeness and depth of knowledge of the fundamental principles and standards governing the pharmaceutical profession. b) ability to coordinate the knowledge acquired in the management of professional pharmaceutical activities within the context of the pharmaceutical service and in the pharmacoeconomic, regulatory, and logistical fields of medicinal products and non-medicinal products. c) ability to apply, with independent judgment, the acquired skills for the purpose of assuming responsibility in the practice of the pharmaceutical profession. d) appropriateness in the use of technical-scientific language as an unequivocal tool for professional communication. e) ability to express/communicate using the correct form of the Italian language.
