Learning objectives
Students will acquire/improve their ability to understand and produce ¬both written and oral scientific texts. Particular attention will be given to the lexical, syntactic, phonological and pragmatic aspects of scientific English. Lectures will include text analysis, lexical work, and practical exercises and interactive activities.

Program
Development of linguistic skills for international healthcare contexts, with a focus on radiological terminology and communication with patients and professionals.
Importance of language: promotes diagnostic accuracy and helps establish a trust-based relationship with the patient, which is essential for empathetic clinical practice.
Course Content:
-Anatomical lexicon: terminology for describing body structures in diagnostic imaging.
-Terminology of hospital and outpatient facilities.
-Formal and semi-formal registers in patient communication: strategies to ensure clarity, sensitivity, and understanding, adapting language to the context and emotional needs.
-Medical terminology for pathologies and conditions requiring radiographic examinations.
-Course approach: in addition to technical vocabulary, emphasis on clear and humane communication for effective, patient-centered healthcare.

The teaching methods will include:

Learning assessment procedures
The final exam will be a synthesis of the intermediate assessments conducted during the lessons, aimed at evaluating reading, writing, listening, interaction, and oral presentation skills.
The final assessment will be written and will include theoretical questions, comprehension tasks, and practical exercises based on the content presented in the lessons, video lectures, and in-class activities throughout the course.
Evaluation criteria
The assessment criteria for the formative tests and the final exam will include clarity and accuracy of expression, lexical precision, appropriateness of register, and the ability to comprehend written and spoken texts.
The exam result will be expressed as pass/fail, without the assignment of a numerical grade.
