Learning objectives
In the first period the student will improve the abilities in conventional x-rays, demonstrating the knowledge and autonomy also in mammography and in dental X-ray exam. The student has also to develop skills in professional communication and to start to practice Computed Tomography. In the second and third part of the internship the student has to start practicing Magnetic Resonance, applying the knowledge of the most used sequences studied during the year. In Radiation Therapy the student will learn the behavior of the radiographer during each fase of radiation therapy treatment and how to use the most common set up devices. Furthermore, the student has to learn organizational, ethical and deontological issues related to the profession and to the relation with the patient, and has always to ensure radiation safety for patients and other workers.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Educational activities are considered prerequisites for the internship, particularly the professional discipline courses taught during the current year, professional laboratory activities, the basic safety course (4 hours) and high risk course (12 hours), and the professional laboratory. The suitability assessment and radiological risk classification by the licensed physician and radiation protection expert are considered prerequisites.
Program
Students attend the Radiology, Radiotherapy, and Proton Therapy units at affiliated institutions. They are supported by internship mentors to develop skills and competencies related to: - patient and operator safety; - the equipment used in CT, MRI, Radiotherapy, and Proton Therapy; - the execution of technical and methodological procedures for CT, MRI, Radiotherapy, and Proton Therapy; - the correct execution of positioning and treatment procedures in Radiotherapy or Proton Therapy; - professional relationships and communication. Internship activities will take place in the Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Radiotherapy, and Proton Therapy departments.

Didactic methods
The internship includes various training activities: hands-on experience in the services, tutorials to prepare and review the experience (briefing and debriefing), laboratory exercises and simulations that typically precede hands-on experience to ensure safety, guided study, self-study, and report writing. The supervision of trained tutors allows for hands-on practice in diagnostics, in the presence of patients, and allows for a degree of autonomy in performing radiological tasks.
Learning assessment procedures
The assessment is formative and shared with the student throughout the course. The final internship grade takes into account the levels of competence achieved in the expected objectives for the academic year.
Evaluation criteria
Internship experiences are evaluated for ongoing training purposes and at the end of each academic year through a comprehensive and collegial assessment of the students' progress.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The evaluation is collegial and takes into account the levels achieved in the various internship experiences and based on indicators provided in the student's formative evaluation form, the level expressed in the internship exam, and the written assignments. The overall result is then expressed out of 30.
