Learning objectives

UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWING
- how to optimise the fitting of a hearing aid in order to achieve maximum adaptation to the subject's hearing loss
- the different prescriptive algorithms that differ according to hearing loss and dynamics
- the methods of investigating the hearing aid benefit through hearing aid audiometry, questionnaires and surveys
- the various methods with which to modify amplification parameters, microphone sampling and acoustic stimulation
KNOWING AND BEING ABLE TO APPLY
- a correct assessment of any otological problems that may interfere with the success of prosthetic therapy
- evaluative prosthetic function tests, selection tests, adjustment tests and application of hearing aids
- general rehabilitation methods and in particular hearing aids, both with air and bone conduction hearing aids
- methods for the activation, adjustment and monitoring of implantable devices
- the choice of the correct hearing aid, type of earmolds, such as material and shape, making an impression
- correct hearing-aid fitting
- tools and methodologies for verifying the quality of the prosthetic fitting

Prerequisites and basic notions

Anatomy and Physiology: Structure and function of the auditory system, principles of electrophysiology. Concepts of Acoustic Physics. Audiology: classification of degrees and types of hearing loss and interpretation of audiometric tracings.

Program

- Introduction to the prosthetic strategy - Concept of personalized prosthetic strategy - Analysis of hearing needs and audiological parameters for device selection - Fitting and verification: Digital fitting techniques and verification - Evaluation of subjective satisfaction (questionnaires and functional tests) - Management of fitting problems - Advanced strategies and clinical cases: asymmetric, mixed and pediatric hearing loss - Bimodal solutions: cochlear implant + hearing aid - Fitting in the presence of cognitive or psychoacoustic disorders - Guided discussion of real clinical cases and simulations

Didactic methods

Classroom lectures and practical demonstrations. Clinical case analysis and guided discussion.

Learning assessment procedures

Written test (quiz or open questions) on the theoretical and practical aspects covered

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics covered, mastery of hearing aid techniques, and autonomy in clinical reasoning.
