Learning objectives

The purpose of the course is to enable the students to equip him/herself with adequate knowledge of organizational, managerial, and strategic knowledge for digital transformation throughout the supply chain. The course will also focus on process organization and digital transformation from a lean perspective. Within the course, we will also review the main organizational and information design tools to manage information better and, more generally, redefine/strengthen the business model.
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate the ability to understand and develop and organize business data and digital transformation and have the knowledge and skills to create, manage and reprocess information using management systems, business intelligence, and business analysis.

Prerequisites and basic notions

There are no formal prerequisites. The course builds upon core concepts from Business Organization, Business Administration, Information Systems, and Operations Management.

Program

The course aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to analyze and interpret business data in order to support managerial decision-making through a data-driven decision-making approach. The course adopts a systemic perspective on digital transformation, addressing both intra-organizational processes and inter-organizational processes across the supply chain.
Students will develop an understanding of the concepts, methods, and tools of Business Analytics and Business Intelligence, with particular emphasis on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Business Process Management (BPM), and change management strategies.
Course Contents
• Introduction and the European context: The role of Business Analytics in digital transformation, with reference to the European strategic and regulatory framework, including the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI).
• Fundamentals of Business Analytics and Business Intelligence: Overview of the main theories, concepts, and tools supporting data-driven managerial decision-making.
• Information Systems and Relational Databases: From Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to Database Management Systems (DBMS), with practical applications through business games and case study analyses within the SAP ecosystem.
• Business Intelligence: Overview of decision-support tools and technologies, focusing on the design and development of Business Intelligence dashboards and their use for data-driven decision-making.
• Business Process Modeling: Introduction to Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) as a technique for mapping, analyzing, and improving business processes. Particular attention will be devoted to understanding where and how data-driven strategies can be effectively implemented.
• Business Process Management (BPM): Structured management of business processes, with a focus on the integration of business processes and data.
• Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Change Management: Definition and application of performance indicators to support organizational performance measurement and change initiatives.
• Inter-organizational Business Process Reengineering: Redesign of business processes across organizational boundaries to improve efficiency and organizational performance, including the use of AI agents to support process innovation.
• Inter-organizational Business Analytics: Data-driven analysis at the inter-organizational level, focusing on supply chains, digital ecosystems, and data sharing among organizations.
• Change Management: Data-driven change strategies, leadership for digital transformation, HR Analytics, organizational change management, and the impact of digital transformation on roles, competencies, and workforce development.

Didactic methods

In addition to lectures, the course will include a combination of practical workshops, business games, and company testimonials, providing students with the opportunity to develop the analytical and decision-making skills necessary to interpret data and processes in a complex and constantly changing business environment.
Throughout the academic year, there is also an individual reception service managed by the teacher, with the schedule constantly updated and available on the web pages.
The content of the textbook, as well as the lectures and exercises given in the classroom, is part of the program. The slides will be made available as study material during the lessons.

Learning assessment procedures

The examination consists of a 1,5 hour written test. The exam will consist of a theoretical question and a practical exercise.

Evaluation criteria

The test is structured to assess the level of knowledge of the topics covered in the Digital Supply Chain course.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The test aims to assess:
• the knowledge of the course topics, particularly their application and methodological aspects;
• the ability to apply logical approaches to the organizational design challenges presented;
• the depth and breadth of your knowledge acquired;
• the technical language proficiency;
• the capacity to employ the techniques and tools covered in the course.
The final grade is expressed out of 30.
