Learning objectives
The course aims to lead students through analysing the agro-food and wine supply chains, from agricultural production to final consumption and focusing on specialty products, by adopting a strategic managerial perspective. The main certification and traceability systems applied in Italy and the information process towards consumers will be studied, and business case studies will be analysed and discussed. At the end of the course, students should be able to understand the organisation of agri-food and wine production systems and supply chains, manage them considering their specificities, and develop a managerial approach to implement innovative and sustainable supply-chain processes.

This module focuses on agri-food and wine supply chains analysing the actors working along these supply chains, intrinsic issues that would impact the actors, the support systems that are essential to make these supply chain achieve their effectiveness and policy options strengthening their resilience.
Analysis of the actors: Input suppliers, Farmers, Processors, Market intermediaries, Retailers and Customers.
Analysis of the intrinsic issues: Perishability, Quality and Risk.
Analysis of the support system: Infrastructure, Logistics, Financial system and Role of government.
Analysis of policy options for strengthening resilience: Ecological and climate risks to crops, disease threats, logistics bottlenecks and trade disruptions.
Analysis of selected case studies.

Didactic methods
Teaching methods consist of lectures focused on the basic concepts and methodologies; exercises essentially dedicated to the discussion of cases with entrepreneurs, managers and sector specialists are added.
A textbook is integrated with in-depth readings that are offered during the course.
Textbook, integrative reading and exercises are closely related to the program.
All materials are available, also for non-attending students, on the e-learning platform.
Learning assessment procedures
Students are evaluated with a single written examination which consists of 15 multiple choice questions and 4 open-ended questions of which only three must be answered.
Evaluation criteria
The exam aims at evaluating what students learnt in the course and their ability to make connections between the different notions.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final mark will be out of 30.
