Learning objectives

The student must acquire the linguistic tools necessary to understand and process texts in correct form, with full mastery of spanish language on the topic of Cultural Heritage.

Prerequisites and basic notions

No specific prerequisites required.

Program

– Overview of the Spanish-speaking world (countries, areas and cultural connections) with an overview of the World Heritage sites (UNESCO) in Hispanic countries , and of other organisations involved in cultural heritage and its promotion (e.g. the World Tourism Organisation, UNWTO, based in Madrid).
– Presentation of linguistic content useful for understanding and elaborating short texts in Spanish.
– Guided analysis of texts in Spanish on: cultural heritage; ecotourism and sustainable development of the territory; experiences of protection and valorisation of cultural resources and landscape.
– Introduction to the terminology of cultural heritage and tourism, also with a contrastive approach (Spanish/Italian), and to linguistic tools, especially digital ones, useful for professional fields related to cultural heritage and tourism.

Didactic methods

Theoretical and practical lectures, exercises, and individual and/or group work.
Supplementary and supporting teaching materials will be uploaded to the Moodle platform.

Learning assessment procedures

For those attending the lectures the examination consists of ongoing assessments and a final examination consisting of an oral exam. The oral exam will involve reading, commenting on and translating texts relating to the fields of cultural heritage and tourism, based on what has been learnt during the lectures.
For non-attending students, the exam consists of a written section (60 minutes) and an oral section. The first one covers the compulsory reading list (with a distinction made between those who are beginners in Spanish and those who are not). The oral examination will involve reading, commenting on and translating texts relating to the fields of cultural heritage and tourism (see teaching materials and instructions published on the course’s Moodle page).
Lecturers are available to answer any queries via their institutional email addresses and during their office hours.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Breadth of knowledge and skills acquired; accuracy, and linguistic and formal correctness of the answers; clarity of exposition; use of discipline terminology.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The grade will be in thirtieths.
For attending students, the final grade will be obtained from the average of an in-progress assessment and the result of the final examination.
