Learning objectives

The course will provide students with an overview of principles and rules that govern private relationships – with special attention on patrimonial aspects – in view of the development of skills necessary to address questions in the field of Private Law. During the course professor and students will also analyse some specific cases together focusing on legal terminology regarding Private Law. Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to make use of the basic notions and rules that govern relationships between private individuals and entities, with particular attention to business relationships.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Being a first-year exam, there are no specific prerequisites other than those required to access the Degree Course.

Private law in general – Subjective legal situations – Legal facts and acts – Subjects: natural persons and legal persons – Real property and rights – Obligations – Contract in general – Typical contracts – Consumer contracts – Non-contractual sources of obligation – Torts – Family law in general – Marriage – Filiation – Law of succession – Donations – Protection of rights.

Didactic methods

The teaching methods adopted consist of frontal lectures, also aimed at involving the students participating in the course in the formulation of reasoning and in the solution of legal problems.

Learning assessment procedures

The final exam consists of 31 multiple choice quiz on the topics covered by the program. Grades are measured in thirtieths (0-30 scale) and are awarded by assigning 1 point for each correct answer and 0 points for each incorrect or missing answer.. The test is considered passed with at least 18 correct answers. The thirty-first question is only evaluated if all thirty other questions have been answered correctly, and the correct answer to which results in the student being awarded honours.
The written test lasts 45 minutes and is corrected immediately after delivery. Students with a mark of 26/30 or higher may also request an oral interview, which may improve or worsen the final grade.
No intermediate tests are planned.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The following aspects are evaluated: 1) knowledge of the institutions and rules of private law; 2) understanding of technical-legal terminology; 3) critical reasoning skills.
Evaluation is in thirtieths.
