Mathematical and scientific knowledge and skills from upper secondary school education.
Program
The course aims to teach Fortran programming in serial and parallel
- Introduction to Fortran and compiled languages
- Fundamental instructions
- Program structure
- Parameters and structures (loops and if clauses)
- Input/Output
- Vectors and matrices
- Intrinsic functions
- Subprograms (functions, subroutines, modules)
- Time permitting: Elements on memory usage (and comparison with C)
- Time permitting: Elements of parallel computing

Didactic methods
The teaching method will include: theoretical explanation, computer examples, exercises to be carried out independently with the support of the lecturer
A fortran compiler is required.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam consists of a written test concerning the contents of the lectures, the ability of evaluating the correctness of an algorithm and of writing short programs.
Evaluation criteria
Knowledge of syntax.
Correctness and clarity of the code.
Correct application of the methodologies explained in class.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The assessment of the examination will be given in the form: approved/not approved.
The test is said to be ‘approved’ if a mark of 18 or higher is achieved in the written test.
