Learning objectives

The main aim of the course of private law is to give students an adequate knowledge of the legal system governing relations among individuals and institutions, which act on an equal footing. The main issues of private law will be covered in class, also through classroom discussions on some case studies drawn from recent case law and through examples dealing with daily life. At the end of the course, students will be provided with a clear and concrete knowledge of the fundamental institutions of private law and with the specific terminology of the subject. Moreover, students will acquire knowledge on the rules and fundamental notions of private law, they will be able to understand the principles at the basis of different norms and they will know how to elaborate legal reasoning and apply it to practical cases.

Didactic methods

The course, which is delivered primarily through lectures, relies on the use of slides to explain and simplify the material and numerous real-world examples. The course also includes the analysis of recent case law, actively involving students in the classroom, and an introduction to the knowledge and use of legal databases.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam consists of an oral exam, i.e., an interview covering the topics covered in the program. Each exam session includes a pre-selection written test: only students who pass it will be admitted to the oral exam. This test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, and a pass is considered with at least 12 correct answers, with no penalty for incorrect or missing answers. The written test lasts 35 minutes and will be marked immediately after students return their papers. The oral exam will begin the same day, once the tests have been marked. There is no midterm exam.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The exam aims to assess the student's level of knowledge of the subject matter, their ability to organize their discourse, their critical reasoning skills, and the quality of their presentation, including their proficiency in using legal terminology.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade is expressed in thirtieths and is the result of the oral exam.
