Learning objectives
The course examines environmental problems from an economic perspective and the nature of environmental policies and environmental policy debates. Students will examine environmental policy instruments in response to environmental problems in theory and with real world examples. At the end of the course students should be able to assess strengths and weaknesses of alternative policy instruments and understand the basis for selecting among alternative instruments to resolve specific environmental problems. Students will gain the ability to apply economic principals to real-world environmental problems, to design environmental policy instruments and assess their effectiveness. Students will also gain soft skills by working in teams and presenting case studies.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Good knowledge of basic concepts of Microeconomics, Game Theory and Econometrics.

Didactic methods
Part of the lectures will be presented by the teacher as standard lectures. However, for some of the topics students are going to be asked to prepare and present these topics in class to the other students. This part will be count as a grade for the exam (see Exam Methods)
Learning assessment procedures
The exam consists of 2 parts.
1. Presentation of a topic to the class: students will be divided into groups of 3-4 people and will have to prepare a topic to present to the class.
2. Final exam: the final exam will consist of one exercise and one essay-type questions on the course contents. It will last one hour.
BONUS POINTS: Additionally, students can earn bonus points by responding to quizzes that will be asked in class. There will be a total of three quizzes during the semester (max 3 bonus points). Quizzes will not be announced in advance.
Evaluation criteria
Each of the parts will be graded on a 30 points scale.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The weights of the three parts for the final grade are as follows:
1. Presentation of a topic to the class - 30%
2. Final exam - 70%
