Learning objectives

The course provides an overview of the archaeological disciplines through an introduction to the methods, strategies and to the role and meaning of archeology in present society.

Prerequisites and basic notions

secondary school historical knowledge

Program

The course will cover the following topics:
- public archaeology: why archaeology, society, and ways of interacting with communities;
- archaeological methods for studying ancient landscapes;
- archaeological methods for excavating sites;
- humanity and the environment: bioarchaeology;
- archaeologies and time: protohistory, classical archaeology, and medieval archaeology. Case studies and research projects
- archaeology, architecture, and monument restoration.

For non-attending students, the bibliography will be supplemented with two additional supporting texts.
