Learning objectives

The course of Literature and philology of Late Antiquity (m) proposes: • to frame in its diachronic development the late antiquity period of the imperial age up to the fifth century with particular reference to the contexts of literary production; • To analyze, translate and comment literary texts (in Greek and Latin) from a critical-textual, linguistic, stylistic, hermeneutical point of view, paying attention to the trends and problems of the period (Atticism, relations between Christianity and paganism, relations between the Greek and Roman world) and to the most widespread genres (poetry, oratory, biography, historical, scientific, philosophical and scholarly treatises. At the end of the course the student must demonstrate: 1) knowledge of the cultural tendencies and literary genres of Late Antiquity in their diachronic development; 2) ability to read e to give a critical-philological and historical-literary interpretation of texts from Late Antiquity; 3) ability to communicate the acquired knowledge with an appropriate vocabulary.
