Through appropriate module choices, the course aims, for those interested in publishing, journalism, and public relations, to provide professional training tailored to the various roles currently required in these fields, ranging from print media, radio, and television to new media. Across all these areas, there is a growing demand for professionals tasked with monitoring public communications in both public institutions and private companies.
The curriculum of the Master's degree program includes differentiated activities across three learning areas, designed to both consolidate soft skills and build the specialized competencies needed to operate in oral and written communication, journalism, and publishing:
1. Linguistics and Information Technology: Focuses on the linguistic, rhetorical, semiotic, and legal aspects of communication, with particular attention to the technological elements that define it today.
2. Journalism: Concentrates on in-depth literary, historical, sociological, political, and geopolitical aspects of writing and the journalistic profession.
3. Publishing and Multimedia: Aims to provide specific expertise in publishing and editorial processes, as well as the closely linked field of new media—including their techniques and languages—and the impact these media have on contemporary societies and cultures.
Clearly these three areas overlap, collectively providing the theoretical foundations, analytical capabilities, and practical skills required to operate within the media ecosystem and in editorial, journalistic, and communication roles.
The program is structured chronologically, with courses across the three learning areas distributed evenly over the two years. The first year focuses on providing fundamental knowledge in the core subject areas primarily through mandatory core courses, whereas the second year consists of elective modules chosen from predetermined tracks aligned with the specific fields in which students wish to specialize.
To develop practical skills and professional competencies in these learning areas, and to ensure students acquire first-hand knowledge of workplace dynamics in the relevant industries, the program includes curricular workshops as well as an internship or placement at an institution or enterprise accredited by the University.
These areas of knowledge and skills are rounded out by training in the fluent use of at least one European Union language, with a specific focus on specialized vocabulary used in the information and communication areas.
