Learning objectives
The course aims to present the theories and to provide the tools for the study of the relationship between performing arts and media, that is to say the technologies used to construct, fix, transmit, enjoy and comment one single performance or more and all its various components from the antiquity to the digital age. At the end of the course the students will be able to understand the many possible interactions between media and performing arts; analyse the cultural, social, and ideological aspects underneath them; compose on their own short written papers on a piece of performance; acquire the ability to improve their knowledge in time.

Program
Twentieth-Century Comedians Through the Media. The course, after laying the foundation for an understanding of comedy in performance, will analyze the artistic work of some of the most important twentieth-century Italian comedians, with particular attention to their migration from one medium to another (theater, variety theater, cabaret, radio, film, television). The course will focus primarily on the following artists: Ettore Petrolini, Totò, Walter Chiari, Franca Valeri, Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia, Paolo Villaggio, Renato Pozzetto, Roberto Benigni, and the Lopez-Marchesini-Solenghi Trio.

Didactic methods
The teaching will be based on frontal lessons, during which the teacher will try to stimulate dialogue and active interaction with the students. The lessons will make use of the projection of photographs and television and film clips and the listening of discographic and radio recordings.
Learning assessment procedures
Preparation will be verified through an oral interview.
Evaluation criteria
The evaluation will take into account the following elements: knowledge of the course contents; ability to express oneself in a clear, logical and lexically appropriate way; ability to personally rework the topics; ability to historically and aesthetically contextualize the topics.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
Single grade in thirtieths.
