Learning objectives

The course offers an introduction to the main historical, artistic and literary features of Austrian culture between the Nineteenth and Twentieth century, focusing in particular on the distinctive cultural Austrian and Middle-European topography (Vienna 1900, Kafka’s Prague and Salzburg) and on the works of the most representative authors of this period. At the end of the course students will have to show a deep knowledge of the topics dealt with during the course, regarding both the historical-literary period and the works in original language; furthermore they will have to be able to analyze and understand the texts and to show the abilities developed during the course through a suitable competence in German.

Title:
Der Ursprung der Tragödie: "Radetzkymarsch" von Joesph Roth und "Die letzten Tage der Menschheit" von Karl Kraus.
The course is held in German and is aimed at analysing the novel "Radetzkymarsch" by Joseph Roth and the tragedy "Die letzten Tage der Menschheit" by Karl Kraus representing, respectiveliy, the crisis of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and The Great War.

Oral exam of about twenty minutes, in German.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Ability to understand and analyze the literary texts and the critical essays of the programm. Vote in thirtieths.
