Learning objectives
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: - describe the basic concepts of grammar; - apply their theoretical knowledge to concrete linguistic data, i.e., analyze German sentences with respect to the so-called "Felderanalyse", the syntactic functions and the other concepts that will be introduced during classes; - appraise the importance of the theoretic framework for the analysis and interpretation of data; - demonstrate to have the German language skills that correspond to the B1 level of the CEFR.
Prerequisites and basic notions
The student must know the basics of logical analysis (syntactic functions) and grammatical analysis (word classes/parts of speech)
Program
"German Sentence Structure. Introduction to Syntactic Analysis".
This course introduces students to the syntactic analysis of the German language.
Professor Tomaselli: Analysis of constituents, syntactic functions and grammatical relations from the perspective of so-called "Felderanalyse" (analisi per campi).
Professor Rabanus: Valency grammar. that is, the structure of the sentence whose necessary elements are determined by the verb.
Non-attending students will consult with the instructor regarding additional reading.

Didactic methods
Frontal lessons with the support of power point presentations.
Verification exercises with discussion and correction in class. Preparation exercises for the written test.
The course will be held in Italian.
Teaching support: The supplementary and support teaching materials will be uploaded to the Moodle platform of the course.
Students are invited to contact the teacher by email or during office hours.
Students who find themselves in the position of having to recover missed lessons or who are unable to attend must contact the teacher.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is written, in Italian or German at the student's choice. The test is divided into two parts: a first theoretical part with open questions and a second part with exercises (field analysis of some simple and complex sentence structures).
Evaluation criteria
Correctness and completeness of the answers; awareness in the use of the proposed analysis tools.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade is determined by the average of the grade obtained in the exam with the score obtained in the language competence certification.
