Learning objectives

The course aims to consolidate the knowledge of aspects of the tradition of linguistic research in the Hispanic context. At the end of the course students: – should know the basics of theoretical models to account for linguistic phenomena related to Spanish in a synchronic or diachronic perspective; – will apply these models to written and oral texts in Spanish, proving to be able to organize the aspects studied in a systematic manner.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Sufficient Spanish language skills to understand the lessons and take the written exam.

Program

The course aims to address the fundamental theoretical and epistemological aspects of phraseology, starting with its terminology, basic concepts, and the classification of its descriptive units. Examples of phraseological analysis in Spanish will be presented, drawn from various models, disciplines, and approaches. The course will also address the historiography of the discipline and analyze its relationship with other current linguistic disciplines (grammar, pragmatics, lexicology). The second part of the course will focus on historical phraseology in the Spanish language.

d) analysis of the main subdivisions of phraseological material
e) introduction to historical phraseology
f) phraseology and classics of Spanish literature

Didactic methods

The program, reading list, and exam procedures are the same for non-attending students. Both the required reading list and recommended readings for non-attending students will be listed on this page in the Bibliography (Leganto) section.
Teaching support methods:
Supplementary teaching and support materials will be uploaded to the course's e-learning platform.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam consists of a written test in Spanish covering theoretical and practical topics related to the course syllabus, the required reading list, and the provided course materials.
The written test, lasting 90 minutes, consists of multiple-choice, short-answer, and open-ended questions. Some questions will require metalinguistic reflection and the ability to identify and provide examples of phenomena covered in the course.
The exam can be taken using the syllabus and methods indicated until the January/February 2028 exam session.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The exam is designed to assess the breadth and depth of knowledge acquired on the topics covered in the program, as well as the relevance of the answers provided, the student's command of language, terminological precision, and ability to systematically connect the knowledge acquired during lectures and through study of the bibliography.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The grade will be expressed in thirtieths; below 18 (the passing threshold), the result will be considered generally insufficient without further specification. The results will be communicated via the ESSE3 platform.
