Learning objectives

During the course the analyses of specific topics and critical approaches related to Russian literature will be carried out. At the end of the course students will be able to: 1) gain the necessary critical knowledge to understand the literary issues focused on during the course and in particular referring to narrative and poetical forms and genres (LM37), as well as to history of relations between Russian literature and the publishing world (LM19); 2) carry out a deep and coherent textual and comparative analysis using the acquired knowledge; 3) express autonomous and complex opinions about specific moments in Russian literary history and its methodological issues.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND NATURE IN RUSSIAN LITERATURE
ОТНОШЕНИЯ ЧЕЛОВЕК-ПРИРОДА В РУССКОЙ ЛИТЕРАТУРЕ
The course will focus on the most characteristic modes of artistic reflection on the relationship between man and nature in Russian literature of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.
Some central themes will be:
- Nature as a mirror of Russian man
- Ecological awareness
- Landscape as a motif
- Naturalness vs. Abstraction
- Nature and Memory

Didactic methods

Teaching methods: Lectures; e-learning; reading, translation, and commentary on literary texts. Additional materials will be uploaded to the course e-learning page. Non-attending students are required to arrange with the instructor to read three critical essays related to the course topic. Erasmus students should contact the instructor at the beginning of the course.

Learning assessment procedures

Oral exam

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Evaluation will be based on the following criteria: - substantive accuracy and completeness of answers in terms of content; - analytical ability; - clarity of presentation, argumentative ability, and knowledge of the subject-specific language.
