Learning objectives

Philosophy of Art and Music The course aims to deepen the knowledge (conceptual, methodological and cultural tools, interpretative theories and artistic practices, learned during the Bachelor degree course) in order to refine their application skills (analyze and interpret the works of art, knowing how to read their texture, insert them in specific areas and cultural and historical environments). The course aims to make people understand the conceptual logics and structures, developing the ability to use a precise and adequate language; moreover, it aims to give the student the skills to confront the art world so that he can independently form a critical judgment and be able to express it in an appropriate language.

Program

The Sublime Teleology of Aesthetic Education
Kant – Schiller
1. Introduction to Kant’s Critique of Judgment.
2. Lectures and comments to the “Analytics of the Sublime”.
3. Lectures and comments to the “Critique of the Teleological Judgment”.
4. This will be followed by an analytical lecture of some of Friedrich Schiller's writings in order to discuss the principal concepts of his aesthetics, such as for example the sublime, naive and sentimental poetry, beauty, the aesthetic state and the impulse to play. A particular accent will be laid on Schiller's political and aesthetic project in the Letters on the Aesthetic Education of mankind.

Didactic methods

The didactic methods adopted are not distinct between attending and non-attending students. They consist of frontal lessons devoted to the transmission of fundamental concepts and structures of thinking and reflection and their respective application tools to implement theoretical notions in the direction of autonomous critical judgment. Furthermore, the students will hold relations on relevant themes for the course.
Throughout the academic year, the teacher also holds a regular individual Reception at the times indicated on his page (without having to set a specific appointment). However, it is recommended that you consult the messages to be informed of any changes. During the first lesson, attending students will receive the full lesson schedule with the dates and topics discussed. Information on timetables and classrooms is also provided.
The course will be accompanied by a workshop during which the topics discussed during the frontal lessons will be discussed and deepened.
The content of books and lessons is adhering to the program.

Learning assessment procedures

ASSESSMENT METHODS AND CRITERIA
The assessment of the learning outcomes involves an oral test, during which the issues discussed during the course and studied in the texts will be developed. The exam aims at ensuring knowledge of the topics under discussion and the ability to apply the concepts and logical methodologies to the various issues proposed.

Evaluation criteria

This indivisible oral test is about the whole program and consists of a two-part interview - one with the teacher and one with one of his collaborators - and tries to verify:
- the depth and breadth of the knowledge gained;
- the property of language;
- the ability to systematically connect knowledge;
- analytical and argumentative ability.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The vote is expressed in marks from 18 to 30/30.
