Learning objectives
The course aims at presenting French philosophy not only in its national context, but also in its European context, particularly in its relationships with the Italian thought during Renaissance and XVII century, and with the German philosophy in the 19th and 20th century. In this way, the students should acquire a good knowledge of philosophical ideas and views in their genesis and through the related debates. As the skills are concerned, the Course aims at giving the students sound critical tools to understand the different contending positions at stake, with a particular attention to modern and contemporary thought, on the background given by Middle Ages and Renaissance. Goal of the Course, finally, is to provide the students with the critical stance necessary to a better comprehension of the considered topics and their present debate, together with adequate capacities in arguing, interpreting, and expressing one’s reasoning.
