Learning objectives

The course of Medicine and Nutrition aims to provide the knowledge for the evaluation of the nutritional status, body composition, metabolism and energy balance, energy needs and individual nutrients, as well as the learning of the neuro-hormonal mechanisms that affect eating behavior and body weight.
The student will also acquire knowledge on the influence of food on the state of health and well-being of man, on the principles of proper nutrition, on the prevention of diseases, in particular chronic-degenerative diseases, on the role of nutrition in regulating the immune response and intestinal microbiota, as well as on the nutritional aspects of populations in particular physiological conditions such as aging.

Examination methods

Multiple choice written test to verify the overall degree of knowledge of the subject of this course.


Prerequisites and basic notions

Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Program

The course will address the pathophysiological bases and clinical manifestations of the main disease conditions of internal medicine interest, with particular emphasis on the role of lifestyle and nutrition in adult and geriatric patients.
