Learning objectives
The course provides the fundamental concepts of General Chemistry and some basics of Inorganic Chemistry. Moreover, models and general concepts as means of justification and prediction of physical and chemical properties of systems of increasing degree of complexity (atoms, molecules, substances, multi-component systems, both homogeneous and heterogeneous) are illustrated and discussed. Concepts and methods for predicting qualitative and quantitative changes of intensive and extensive properties of evolving chemical systems will be also considered. Stoichiometry exercises will be solved to acquire competences to manage real problems of chemical interest. The course will consider some practical experiences in laboratory, to give skills for solving real analysis typical of a chemical laboratory, together with some information about the common equipment present in a chemical laboratory and how to work in safe conditions.
Examination methods
The exam will consists of a written test, including exercises and questions on the entire course program. The exam will be aimed at ascertaining the student's knowledge of the contents of the course. Particular attention will be given to the understanding of the concepts of general and inorganic chemistry, of the methods and tools used in the laboratory experiences.
For both attending and non-attending students the exam will focus on all the topics discussed during the theoretical part as well as on the part concerning laboratory experiences
For the part concerning laboratory experiences, written reports will be required concerning the methods and results obtained during the experiences. Laboratory reports will be evaluated to the purpose of formulating the final grade.

Didactic methods
The course will be delivered in person, without the use of streaming or recordings. Any use of streaming or recordings is at the complete discretion of the teacher. The teacher has the right to use supplementary teaching material (e.g. old recorded lessons) for students who demonstrate a justified need.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam will consist of a written test including the resolution of 4 exercises that require calculations and 18 theory questions on the entire teaching program. The 4 exercises, prepared by the teacher of the exercise course (12 hours), will instead focus on the following topics: stoichiometry/ponderal relations; redox reactions; gaseous equilibria; acid-base equilibria; buffers; hydrolysis of salts; precipitation equilibria (Kps); heterogeneous/homogeneous systems, elementary analysis; molecular formula -brute/minimal; reaction yield; preparation of solutions. The student must select the only correct answer among the 5 possible ones. 4 laboratory reports (within the course held by another teacher) will be evaluated in order to formulate the final grade. A periodic table will be provided; students must bring a scientific calculator.
Evaluation criteria
The exam will be aimed at verifying the student's knowledge of the contents of the Teaching and of the course of exercises (held by another Teacher). Particular attention will be paid to the mastery of the concepts of general and inorganic chemistry, their application in the resolution of practical problems and the understanding of the methods and tools used in laboratory experiments.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade, out of 30, is made up of the evaluation obtained in the written exam + that of the laboratory experiences. The score for the 22 questions in the exam essay is composed as follows: 1 point for each correct theoretical answer (-0.2 points if wrong, 0 points if answer not given or cancelled). 3 points for each of the 4 exercises completed correctly (-0.6 points if wrong, 0 points if answer not given or cancelled). Up to 2 points are added or subtracted from the total score for the evaluation of the laboratory reports.
