Learning objectives
The Wine Business Management Tools course explores the concepts and tools required for understanding both the content and the informational value of financial statements, as well as tools for implementing planning systems suited to the governance needs of wine enterprises. To this end, the following topics are addressed: the firm’s objective function; management processes, including life stages, cycles, and managerial aspects; the economic and financial structure of the enterprise, with particular reference to income, capital, financial needs, and funding; business equilibrium; financial reporting; and tools for planning and control; sustainability assessment.
The course also seeks to explore appraisal methodologies in relation to issues concerning investment analysis and property valuation, including easements and rights, which are increasingly significant in the management of wine enterprises. The following topics are covered: asset-based, income-based, financial, mixed valuation methods, and goodwill assessment for business valuation; methodologies for the appraisal of land improvements and investments in viticulture; real estate valuation, land rent, and the assessment of real estate funds; easements, real rights of use and enjoyment; inheritance and donations; and valuation for inheritance and gift taxation purposes.
