Learning objectives

The course provides the theoretical and methodological bases necessary to analyse and interpret the economic relationships existing between economic subjects (individuals, companies, and institutions), which operate in different market regimes (perfect competition, monopoly, and oligopoly). Students will acquire the basic knowledge of the main economic models. At the end of the course, students will be able to comprehend the economic phenomena of modern market economies and to read national and international press specialized in economic topics.

There are no prerequisites.

This course will study the following key economic topics:
Consumption Theory: Analysis of consumer behavior and choices.
Production Theory: Study of production processes and firm decisions.
Market Organizations: Exploration of different market structures, including perfect competition and monopoly.
Market Failures: Understanding externalities and potential solutions to these inefficiencies.

Didactic methods

Lectures will be held in person and will primarily involve frontal lessons (lectures) complemented by discussions and exercises to foster practical understanding. In line with university guidelines, lectures will also be recorded and made available to ensure maximum flexibility, following the guidelines established by the degree program.

Learning assessment procedures

The final exam is written and consists of quizzes.

Evaluation criteria

The assessment of learning takes into consideration the ability to interpret the economic phenomena covered in class and the ability to think critically and independently.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The assessment is objective, determined solely by the answers provided, with no room for subjective evaluation.
