Learning objectives

The course examines the main themes of the European administrative structures from the point of view of, a) their organisation, with particular focus on the structure and competences of the European Agencies; b) their procedures and acts, in relation to the interconnections with the corresponding activities of the national public bodies; c) judicial review by the European Union judiciary. At the end of the course the student will have acquired the ability to face and solve real problems use the appropriate and specific disciplinary vocabulary. Students will also be able to verify the practical and applicative consequences of the theoretical and regulatory framework and to set out the solution of concrete issues in written and oral form, also through group work and written exercises, adopting the correct lines of reasoning and argument, and formulating autonomous judgments.

Didactic methods

The course combines lectures for 30 hours (supported by the use of PowerPoint presentations) and discussion of papers prepared by the students on specific topics. The discussion will be held at the end of the course. he remaining lectures (6 hours - 1 ECTS) will be delivered online (recordings) and will cover general introductory topics.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam can be held in English or Italian.
For students attending the course, the exam consists in two parts:
Paper presentation
Oral exam on the topics covered by the course.
Attending students must attend at least 75% of the lessons.
For non-attending students the exam consists of an oral discussion of the topics covered by the textbook
Recordings of the lectures will be available, on request, to authorised working students.
Erasmus students are allowed to submit a written paper on a topic agreed with the teacher. Papers are presented and discussed during the exam.

Evaluation criteria

For students who attend the lectures and discuss a paper, the final mark will be allocated as follows:
-Oral test on topics covered during the course (30%)
-Paper presentation (70%)
For students who will not be attending the lectures, the mark will refer to the oral exam.
The assessment will be based on the following criteria:
- the depth and breadth of knowledge gained;
- the property of language;
- the analytical and argumentative capacity;
- the capacity for critical reflection.
The final assessment is expressed in 30ths.
