Learning outcomes
The workshop aims to provide students with an introduction to the use of GIS software (ArcGIS and QGIS) in the field of archaeology and Cultural Heritage. It will develope the technical skills for the management and analysis of cartographic data, as well as the critical analysis of the potential and limitations of this tool in the interpretative phase of the research.
Program
Firstly, the main functions of GIS software will be introduced, in order to learn the management of the geometric and informative component of cartographic data (reference systems, vector data loading, georeferencing of raster cartography, connection between geometry and databases, querying and data selection, symbology.
The second part will be focused on the most common spatial analysis tools in archaeology, such as surface analysis, visibility analysis, network analysis and cluster analysis.

Examination Methods
One or more tables will be asked, to represent one or more spatial analyses addressed during the lab.
The table must be focused on a historical-archaeological problem and must demonstrate the ability to manage a GIS project in its analytical (database management and processing tools) and formal (symbology and layout) components.
This must be accompanied by a brief document describing the research produced and the operations performed (max 500 words).
A brief oral discussion will follow.
