Learning objectives

The Greek Language (p) course aims to complement the introductory course by further focusing on aspects of language and Greek dialectology, as well as by introducing Students to other literary genres than those focused on in the introductory course. The objective will be achieved by reading and analyzing a selection of highly significant literary documents.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Knowledge of Ancient Greek and its literary dialects.

Part 1. The legacy of archaic literary dialects in Hellenistic poetry:

Part 2. Birth, diffusion and differentiation of the Greek koiné:

Learning assessment procedures

Oral examination (both for regularly attending Students and non-attending Students).
NB: non-attending and Erasmus Students are kindly required to contact the Lecturer to agree on an alternative program.
The examination aims at evaluating the Students' knowledge of the texts read during the classes and autonomously: Students will be asked to read, translate and analyze some passages from the texts in the syllabus.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Particular emphasis will be placed on the morphological, phonological and stylistic aspects of the Greek texts.
The Students' critical competence will be tested as well, especially their ability to link specific linguistic aspects with the general development of Greek language and the different features of styles and genres.
