Learning outcomes

To gain an in-depth knowledge of one of the most significant Italian writers of the second half of the Twentieth century. Students are required to use correctly the Italian language, its grammar and syntax, as well as all those rhetorical and stylistic skills which are essential for a close reading of any literary text.

Program

1) Tradition and innovation in Italian literature from the Twenties to the Present: main movements; 2) reading Italo Calvino.
Required texts:For n°1:Alberto Asor Rosa, Breve storia della letteratura italiana, Torino, Einaudi 2013. vol.II. L’Italia della Nazione, i capp. VI,VII,VIII, IX. For n° 2: full-text reading of he following: Italo Calvino,Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno (1947), Il cavaliere inesistente (1959), La giornata di uno scrutatore (1963), Marcovaldo (1963), Il castello dei destini incrociati (1973), Se una notte d’inverno un viaggiatore (1979), Lezioni americane (1988).
And,full-text reading of the following:Alberto Asor Rosa, Stile Calvino, Torino, Einaudi 2001.
For non-attending students: to make up for having missed classes, reading of Marino Barenghi, Italo Calvino, le linee e i margini, Bologna, Il Mulino 2007.
