Learning outcomes
Students are invited, based on their experience and their interests, to assess critically some reference texts. At the end of the course, students will have to prove: their adequate knowledge of the texts; critical assessment; to know how to communicate their knowledge in a clear, coherent and well-supported way; to know how to interact in the discussions with the professor and the other students.
Program
Course theme: Phenomenology of the affective sphere and openness to the world.
In this course we will discuss the problem of the affective sphere by referring to some classics of philosophical thought, starting from Plato, and with particular attention to Max Scheler's phenomenology of emotions and values.
There are some emotional dispositions - such as the feeling of respect, love, hatred, or resentment - which guide our positioning in the world as well as the way we perceive reality and our relationships with others, widening or narrowing the horizon and depth of our experience. Others, like the feeling of modesty and shame, seem to regulate our exposure to the gaze of the other.
