M-FIL/06 - HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY

Period

Sem. 1B dal Nov 11, 2019 al Jan 11, 2020.

Learning outcomes

The teaching of History of Renaissance Philosophy offers the cognitive tools that allow to read and comment on a philosophical text autonomously and to present the fundamental themes in a clear and precise way, to develop the ability to critically analyze the texts, to insert them in their historical context, to identify the most relevant topics, to communicate their arguments in an appropriate manner with the student colleagues and the teacher, and to use complementary resources available (engines research on the web, bibliographic tools). A part of the course will solicit the critical discussion not only through the frontal lesson but through the seminar form or the discussion of a specific subject in order to acquire the following transversal skills: ability to analyze and give coherence to information (acquire, organize and reformulate data and knowledge from different sources); ability to communicate in a effective way (transmitting ideas in oral and written form in a clear and correct manner, appropriate to the interlocutor); ability to work in a group (know how to coordinate with others by integrating skills); ability to develop ideas, design and organize their realization; ability to solve problems (apply what has been learned in a real situation); ability to formulate judgments in autonomy.

Program

Title and content of the course: "Art and Poetry in the philosophy of the Renaissance"

The course focuses on the relationship between art and poetry in the Renaissance (XV-XVI centuries), taking into consideration two fundamental angles: 1) that of pictorial art, with a focus on drawing as a "second nature", on the paragone between the arts and the relationship between Love (Amore) and God; 2) that of lyricism and music, with a focus on the poetic aspects of the Canzone and its re-elaboration in the musical genre of the Madrigal. The course will therefore be divided into two parts: the first part will tackle the "Trattato della Pittura" by Leonardo da Vinci (1651) in light of other important artistic concepts of the Renaissance; the second part will examine some passages of the "Canzoniere" by Francesco Petrarca (1470) and the "Prose della volgar lingua" by Pietro Bembo (1525).

TEXT TO BE READ FOR THE ORAL EXAM:
-L. da Vinci, Trattato della pittura, Part One (any edition).
-F. Petrarch, Il Canzoniere (any edition).
-P. Bembo, Prose della volgar lingua (any edition).
-Handouts containing: 1) Texts of authors of the Renaissance; 2) La Filosofia del Rinascimento: figure e problemi, a cura di Germana Ernst, Carocci, Roma 2003, chapters 1, 2, 7, 13, 15; 3) C.
