Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing the students with an exhaustive overviewing of the Italian literary tradition (texts, contexts, methods, themes, forms and contents) from the Origins to the Unità (beginning part), and examining closely a definite historical period, by analysing directly representative authors or literary genres (advanced part).

• Basic knoledge of the texts and historical periods of the italian literary tradition
• Philological, stilistic, metrical, rhetorical, critical basic notions

• PARTE INTRODUTTIVA: the main phases and authors of the italian literary tradition from the Origini to the Unità, with analysis of exemplary texts

2. Anthology of some texts by the greatest Italian authors. The Anthology wil be put in e-learning of Verona University. The teacher will indicate the obligatory texts during the lessons.
Before their examination the students who will not attend lessons shall present the written list of the selected texts, otherwise they will be excluded from the examination.
These texts shall be picked out from everyone of the following books:
-DANTE ALIGHIERI, Divina Commedia: five cantos of the Divina Commedia between those of the Anthology
-FRANCESCO PETRARCA, Canzoniere: five poetries, of which at least one canzone
-GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO, Decameron: five novelle
-NICOLÒ MACHIAVELLI: two chapters of the Principe e one scene of the Mandragola
-LUDOVICO ARIOSTO, Orlando furioso: one of the cantos of the Anthology
-TORQUATO TASSO, Gerusalemme liberata: one of the cantos of the Anthology
-CARLO GOLDONI: one act of a commedy
-GIUSEPPE PARINI: one ode or a passage of the Giorno
-VITTORIO ALFIERI: one act of the Mirra or an anthologic passage from the Vita
-UGO FOSCOLO: two sonnects or a selection from the Sepolcri
-GIACOMO LEOPARDI: three cantos and one of the Operette morali
-ALESSANDRO MANZONI: a poetry or a passage from the Promessi sposi.
