Learning objectives

Provide basic knowledge of physical geography and human geography to understand human-environment interaction, the effects produced on the landscape and the effects on cultural heritage. Educating the student in the complexity of the relationship between man and environment.

Program

Educational objectives of geography teaching are the acquisition by students of geographic-cartographic skills, methodological tools and critical terminologies, interpretative techniques related to the development of geography and cartography. These skills are linked to the critical analysis of themes, works, geographical and cartographic personalities, analysis of territories with the aim of providing a geographic-cartographic grid with an interdisciplinary character necessary to understand the development of the current reality to achieve true sustainable, environmental development, human, economic. The student must also acquire specific terminology and a general knowledge of the sources and development of geography and cartography and geographic-cartographic methodologies linked to the analysis of contemporary reality. Course content: The course provides a basic knowledge of the main developments in geography and cartography from its origins to the present day. Since it is impossible to provide a complete analysis of the many aspects connected to this large period, during the lessons some focuses will be proposed, with reflections on the geographical methodology and openings on the fields of the use of cartography as an indispensable tool of knowledge in a perspective of methodological interrelation. . Learning assessment procedures

The assessment of learning is aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics in the program and the skills relating to the methods of analysis and the scientific language of geography and cartography. The assessment of the preparation will take place through a written exam, intended to verify above all the direct knowledge and the ability to analyze the situations presented in class. The student will be required to know the main lines of geographic and cartographic science. The test is divided into three parts. The first part (a) consists of a recognition test of ten images taken from those presented in class, each projected for a period of two minutes: it will be necessary to indicate the territory, the borders and the main characteristics. The second part (b) consists of a broader question on a specific topic among those presented in class: the time allowed for the paper is 20 minutes. The question will be open-ended, formulated so that the student can answer in a concise and precise manner A shorter question (c) will follow, on a specific topic among those presented in the volumes in the bibliography, for which 10 minutes will be available. . The total duration of the exam in this modality is therefore 60 minutes. To obtain a positive vote (18 or higher) it is necessary that at least five of the ten projected images are recognized and that the answers to questions b and c are considered sufficient. It should be noted that in the tests b and c will be evaluated not only the contents, but also the presentation form and the respect of the spelling and grammatical rules. The correction will take place within the days following the exam. For those who bring programs from previous years or choose to take the exam as non-attending students, the exam will be oral. If required, Erasmus students can take the exam orally.
