SPS/07 - GENERAL SOCIOLOGY
Period
II semestre dal Mar 1, 2017 al Jun 2, 2017.
Learning outcomes
Starting from a general overview of some of the main approaches and concepts used in sociology to understand the features and functions of society, the course will allow students to identify the social dimension of sport and physical activity by considering them both from internal and external observation points, namely as specific social phenomena and as elements of society that are always related to other elements. Through in-depth examination of the concept of social capital, found in theoretical reflections in general sociology and also, more specifically, in the sport sociology, the course will attempt to show the efficacy of the analysis of sport and physical activity as social phenomena. Additionally, the presentation of the concept of social capital will allow students to familiarize themselves with some social research techniques, in particular those for analysing social network structures, which are useful in the study of relational contexts in sport.
