Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing students of the Bachelor's degree in Languages and Cultures for Tourism and International Commerce with an adequate knowledge of the Spanish culture of different periods, focusing on its literary, historical, geographical and anthropological aspects. At the end of the course, students will acquire a sound knowledge of the issues covered by the module (historical and cultural context, main writers/texts/movements/genres of the period examined). With regard to the applied and communication skills, students will be able to critically comment the primary texts listed in the syllabus, in relation both to their historical and cultural context and literary specificities, as well as to express the acquired knowlegde in a clear and consistent way.
Program
FEMALE CHARACTERS AND VOICES FROM THE 1800s TO TODAY
Spanish literature of the contemporary era (historical context, texts, genres, movements and authors from the late 19th century to today). Analysis of the representation of the female figure in Spanish literature in prose, from the end of the 19th century to today; the course will focus on studying some female literary characters, as well as exploring the female point of view in writing, both literary and journalistic.
Part I - FEDERICA ZOPPI: Female figures of the late 19th century: characters and voices between literature and journalism. Themes: The end of the nineteenth century and realism: the novel by Galdós and its female characters, vehicle of a social story. Emilia Pardo Bazán: the literary and journalistic female point of view (with a look towards the costumbrista journalism of Romanticism). Modernism and the '98 generation; the avant-garde up to the civil war (the 1920s and surrealism; the generation of 27).
