Learning objectives
Aim of the course is transmitting fundamental knowledge on Italian language and its variability: oral and written Language, specific scientific Languages, different textual typologies. Textual competence and abilities on writing will be improved by practice of analysis and production. Student will be able to recognize variability of Italian Language in time, space, medium, context and register, also in relation to learning of foreigner languages; moreover, student will be able to analyze texts in Italian Language and assing them to different textual typologies.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Excellent knowledge of the Italian language and its grammatical and syntactic structures.
Program
1. Elements of Italian linguistics: standard Italian and varieties of Italian; written Italian and spoken Italian; linguistic pragmatics; sectorial languages; specific registers of sectorial languages.
2. Writing in Italian at university: elements of text linguistics; coherence and cohesion; text typologies; syntactic structures and lexical resources appropriate to the individual types of text.
3. Elements of Italian grammar: the uses of the verb; connectives; punctuation.
4. Analysis and textual production exercises: the summary; the e-mail.
The material uploaded onto the Moodle platform is an integral part of the examination programme, for both students and non-frequent students.
NB: Attendance at the Italian language course is linked to the chair to which the student belongs, assigned on the basis of the initial of the surname (A-E, F-O, or P-Z). It is not possible to switch from one chair to another; the exam must be taken with the teacher assigned.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Participatory face-to-face teaching, individual exercises on a voluntary basis (especially writing tests). Supplementary and supporting teaching materials will be uploaded on Moodle.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam, in written form, covers the points of articulation of the course and is divided into three parts.
First part: closed-ended questions on fundamental theoretical notions of Italian linguistics.
Second part: grammatical completion questions (use of punctuation, connectives, verbs).
Part three: written production, with reference to the types of text seen in class.
The test will be a single one, for attending and nonattending students.
Evaluation criteria
The exam is intended to verify the acquisition of some fundamental notions of Italian linguistics and to assess the students' writing competence according to the criteria of formal correctness, effectiveness, relevance, and correspondence to the context.
The result will be expressed in thirtieths. Points will be awarded in proportion to the type of questions.
