Learning objectives
To provide the participants with the basic knowledge of a company’s nature, functions, operating logic, management and governance. To introduce the issues and the main methods for defining a strategy to obtain competitive advantage in international competitive environments. To present a managerial framework of the tourism phenomenon according to the main actors’ perspectives. The course aims to provide the first basic knowledge in the business field provided by the three-year study plan and will allow the graduate to enter with awareness in business organizations. The course also aims to provide insights to allow the student a conscious choice of curricula.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Good knowledge of the Italian language
Program
The module involves a range of teaching strategies including lectures, case studies and guest lectures. Additional material will be in the form of web-based reading and research, selected texts, journal articles and contemporary magazine and press articles. Independent research and study will be encouraged throughout to complement group work activities.

Didactic methods
The teaching will be given not only through lectures but above all by using interactive teaching methods that will allow students to measure themselves with the contents of the course and with their practical application.
Learning assessment procedures
1 hour written examination made up of open questions to test basic knowledge. If passed, oral examination to test critical analysis skills will take place.
Evaluation criteria
The evaluation criteria are as follows:
- general view of the discipline,
- mastery of specific managerial language,
- deepening of individual topics,
- ability to connect topics (mental elasticity),
- ability to apply concepts to reality.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final evaluation is expressed in 30ths and takes into account all the tests prepared for the assessment of learning.
