L-FIL-LET/10 - ITALIAN LITERATURE
Period
I semestre (Lingue e letterature straniere) dal Sep 30, 2019 al Jan 11, 2020.
Learning outcomes
To acquire knowledge about:
- authors, works, texts and cultural or literary contexts; some texts among the most important for the national literary identity;
- resources needed to comprehend and interpretate texts;
- the theme of the relationship between writing and landscape.
To acquire competences in:
- reading poetry, also in an intertextual view.
At the end of the course students will be able to put the texts known in the adequate cultural context, and to analyze them focusing on the main formal aspects, main themes and the dynamic relationship that connects these two levels.
Program
After providing an adequate historical picture of the changes that affect the companies of the Old Continent between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and their repercussions on intergenerational relations, we will start from the definition of "bildungsroman" and its literary cornerstones in Europe, to analyze the evolutions of the genre in Italy and the way in which some authors have been able to anchor the narrative of the transition from childhood to adulthood to the crucial moments of Italian political and cultural history (for example, national unity, fascism and resistance, the ferment politicians of the 1960s). Starting from the classics "Le confessioni di un italiano" by Nievo and I Malavoglia by Verga, we will then focus on more recent literary contributions, such as those of Moravia, Calvino, Morante, Bassani, Maraini, in whose works almost always the end of childhood coincides with the traumatic discovery of eros.
EDUCATIONAL METHODS
Lectures, with reading, analysis and discussion of the texts. The e-learning platform is active for sharing didactic support material.
