L-FIL-LET/13 - PHILOLOGY OF ITALIAN LITERATURE

Period

I semestre dal Oct 1, 2015 al Jan 9, 2016.

Learning outcomes

Textual Theory and Editorial Methods (formerly Italian Philology)

The course aims at providing the methodological grounds to evaluate textual transmission and build a modern critical edition; alongside with a brief history of the various forms of text production and diffusion, the course will introduce the main criteria of text reconstruction and restoration and explain their linguistic implications. In its applied section, the course will consider the relationship between the traditional critical edition, with its lofty academic tradition, and the various modern forms of digital publishing, with an analysis of both theotetical issues (shifting boundaries of concepts such as text and authorial intention) ad methodological aspects (edition as reference, digital archives, selection of copy-text). A case study of extraordinary complexity, Dante’s Comedy with its hundreds of extant witnesses, will help students assess the validity and efficiency of some of the most advanced methods (cladistics, digital collation) that were deployed in its publication.

Program

The course is taken as a whole; however, its programme is divided in three sections for illustration purposes only.

I parte – Istituzioni di filologia: problemi e metodi. [18 ore = 3 CFU]

B. Bentivogli-P. Vecchi Galli, Filologia italiana, Milano, B. Mondadori, 2002.
P. Stoppelli, Filologia della letteratura italiana, Roma, Carocci, 2008.

NB.

II parte –Edizione critica e pubblicazione digitale: vecchi problemi e nuove frontiere

M. ZACCARELLO, “Reperta”. Indagini recuperi ritrovamenti di letteratura italiana antica, Verona, Fiorini, 2008.
