Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will need to demonstrate to have acquired the main interdisciplinary foundations of Romance Philology (historical linguistics, textual criticism and medieval Romance literature).
Program
The first part of the course is intended to be an introduction to the principles of the discipline, with an overview about the history of Romance philology, an outline of historical linguistics and textual criticism.
In the second part lectures will deal with medieval Gallo-Romance 'classics' from different genres (epic, lyric poetry, tale and novel): selected excepts will be read and translated, and also commented from a literary, linguistic and philological point of view.
