Learning objectives

The course aims to consolidate the knowledge of aspects of the tradition of linguistic research in the Hispanic context. At the end of the course students: – should know the basics of theoretical models to account for linguistic phenomena related to Spanish in a synchronic or diachronic perspective; – will apply these models to written and oral texts in Spanish, proving to be able to organize the aspects studied in a systematic manner.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Sufficient language skills to understand the lessons taught in Spanish.

Program

The course aims to address the fundamental theoretical and epistemological aspects of the phraseological discipline, starting from its terminology, its basic concepts and the classification of its units of description. Examples of analysis of the phraseological component in Spanish will be presented from different models, disciplines and approaches. Students will be able to:
• apply the knowledge necessary to identify phraseological units, compared to other linguistic components (words, syntagms, etc.)
• evaluate the historical conformation of the phraseological discipline and analyse its relationship with the rest of the current linguistic disciplines (grammar, pragmatics, lexicology)
• apply tools for the contrastive analysis of phraseology
• formulate hypotheses and research questions on synchronic and diachronic aspects related to phraseology
• use linguistic corpuses and databases to analyse phraseological phenomena
• search for bibliographic sources and resources for the study of phraseology • analyse documents that will allow understanding and applying the theoretical concepts.

Didactic methods

Frontal lessons on the topics of the program. The program, the bibliography and the exam methods are the same also for non-attending students, who will be able to use recommended readings, indicated in the e-learning platform, to fill any gaps regarding the topics covered during the lessons.
Teaching support methods:
The supplementary and support teaching materials will be uploaded to the Moodle platform of the course, as well as the recommended readings for non-attending students.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam consists of a written test on theoretical and practical questions related to the course program, the mandatory bibliography and the teaching material provided. The written test, lasting 90 minutes, consists of multiple-choice, short-answer, and open-ended questions. Some questions will require metalinguistic reflection and the ability to identify phenomena covered during the course and propose examples. The use of support tools will not be permitted (except those agreed upon in specific cases of inclusion and accessibility).
It will be possible to take the exam with the program and the methods indicated until the January/February 2027 session.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The exam is designed to assess the breadth and depth of knowledge acquired on the topics in the program, as well as the propriety of language, terminological precision and the ability to connect systematically the knowledge acquired during the lessons and from the study of the bibliography.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The score will be unique and will be expressed out of thirty.
