Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to describe the principal notions about data bases, focusing on design methodologies and query languages. More specifically, the course aims to introduce problems about data conservation and management, as a precious and central resource of any human activity. Thanks to formal methods and a problem solving perspective, the student will acquire the basic skills to deal with data management in specific work or research situations, as well as the basics for data design through ad hoc softwares.
Didactic methods
The teaching methods that will initially be developed are those of frontal teaching to transmit the essential and basic knowledge and then continue the analysis of some case studies and the construction of new ones.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is written and consists of three parts:
- Part 1: Closed-ended questions
- Part 2: Open-ended questions on the theoretical topics covered in class
- Part 3: Practical exercises
Evaluation criteria
- objectives aim to evaluate both theoretical knowledge and the generation of DB at a logical and physical level
- contents of the test: theoretical knowledge of the world of computer science and application skills in conceptual and logical design of databases, as well as their interrogation - evaluation methods: formative and summative

The final grade consists of the sum of the three parts
