Learning outcomes
An introduction to the theoretical and methodological instruments offered by performing arts, through the analysis of specific issues of the history of theatre.
Program
The reflections that Luigi Pirandello represent the most important point of arrival of a lively cultural debate, meant to denounce the precarious conditions of the Italian theatrical system in the early twentieth century. Quite a decade later, these materials become part of his best-known work: “Sei personaggi in cerca d’autore”. In the same years, together with other playwrights of the period, Massimo Bontempelli seems to use the concept of human marionette to outline the characteristics of a new type of actor and of his ideal relationship with the public. An interpreter who, without preconceived styles or his own defined acting technique, can be guided like a puppet by a director, an interpreter extremely flexible and versatile to dress up any part entrusted to him.
