Learning outcomes
By analyzing specific issues of the History of theatre, we intend to introduce the student to the theoretical and methodological tools offered by the representative medium, regarding the field of communication and to the comparison between different theatrical traditions. At the end of the course students will be able to contextualize, comprehend and examine on their own the meaning of each coefficient proposed by a prose show.
Program
Course Contents:
In Anton Čechov's plays the structure of dialogue is elaborated in a radically new form, presenting the mechanism of communication in a negative way, that is, showing the difficulties that stand in between the establishing and the maintaining of contact. All the characters show that they do not know how to or do not want to listen one to the other, as well as everyone is in the situation of not being listened to. On the other hand, starting from the traditional structure of the "pièce bien faite", Samuel Beckett resolves the meaning of the whole drama in an empty dialogue, useful only for passing the time. In both authors, the conversation tends to silence and expresses the negativity of a pending existence.
