Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student is expected to: a) have a better understanding of the main categories used within anthropology to understand (inter-) cultural processes; b) become acquainted with anthropological research practices; c) be capable of making use of the acquired tools to act in the media/public arena; d) be capable of a critical approach towards relevant issues in the public debate, particularly activating a critical perspective on migration processes and the categories used in communication.

The course aims to provide an introduction to the history of cinema and a broad overview of the evolution of cinematographic language from its origins to the present day, with particular attention to the influence that new technologies and digital platforms have had on the systems of production and reception of audiovisual texts. The main turning points in the history of cinema will be examined, namely the silent avant-gardes, classic Hollywood, neorealism, modern cinema, Italian comedy, contemporary cinema. Particular attention will be paid to the figure of Sophia Loren, analyzed from both an acting and a star point of view. NB TO PASS THE EXAM IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO FOLLOW THE LESSONS, BUT IT IS ALSO NECESSARY TO STUDY THE PROGRAMMED TEXTS AND WATCH THE FILMS. Learning assessment procedures
Written exam: three open questions. The student must demonstrate mastery of the elements of film language, knowledge of the main junctions of film history and the ability to analyze the film texts in the program.
Evaluation criteria
language skills, ability to analyse a film and place it in its historical-cultural context.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The grade will be 30/30. The 20 closed-ended questions will each be worth 1 point, the open-ended question will be worth 10 points.
