Learning objectives
The main objective of the course is to foster understanding of issues relating to the structure and dynamics of organisations. The specific objectives are to develop: a) knowledge and understanding relating to organisations and their functioning through the study of organisational models, structures and variables (attention will be paid to work organisation, entrepreneurship and organisational development processes in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises); b) the ability to identify organisational structures and variables, to use appropriate languages in the approach to business and human resources. At the end of the course the student should be able to read organisational phenomena in SMEs and recognise the variables on which to intervene for business growth.

Program
The main insights will be:
- Management: theories and models of organisation; scientific management (F. Taylor, H. Ford...); work study (F. Gilbreth and L.M. Gilbreth); industrial fatigue and monotony (Wyatt, Fraser...), Human Relations movement (E. Mayo); HR school (Herzberg, Mc Gregor); organisational behaviour and communication processes (B. Bass, K. Lewin, R. Likert...); bounded rationality theory (H.Simon) and organisational decision-making;
- Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development: definitions and characteristics of SME organisation; the role of SMEs in the international and local economy; entrepreneurship and business creation; entrepreneurial skills and youth entrepreneurship.

- Favretto, G. (2010). Work organisation for human resources development. Verona: QuiEdit (chapters 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13).
- Handout with targeted content available in the course Moodle.
Further materials (videos/English language readings/data updates) useful for further study will be made available.

Evaluation criteria
The exam allows you to measure the knowledge acquired in the two macro-parts of the program.
There are no differences between attending and non-attending students.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
WRITTEN TEST consisting of:
-15 multiple choice questions on indicated chapters of the Favretto book (2010) - 15/30
-15 multiple choice questions on Targeted Content handout available in the course Moodle - 15/30
-duration 30 minutes
(an open question will also be available, which will only be assessed for those who achieve 30/30 in the multiple choice questions, in order to award honours; additional 10 minutes).
