Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding At the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate the attainment of the following learning objectives: 1. knowledge and understanding of the main philosophical problems relevant to educational practice and of the related theories developed over the course of Western thought; 2. knowledge and understanding of the different methodologies available in the philosophical field, their theoretical implications and educational consequences; 3. Knowledge and understanding of the philosophical lexicon and its significance for the development of a technical terminology in the pedagogical field as well. Applying knowledge and understanding At the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate the attainment of the following learning objectives: 1. applying knowledge and understanding to possible scenarios taken from concrete educational activity; 2. applying knowledge and understanding to the reflection on situations in which the dignity of the person and crucial ethical issues determine the pedagogical practice; 3. applying knowledge and understanding to the identification and autonomous analysis of key concepts at the boundary between philosophy and pedagogy; 4. Development of a critical and independent attitude in approaching texts, authors, contexts and problems.

Program

Course title: Philosophy as an Exercise in Transformation and Philosophical Anthropology
The course aims to take up and develop philosophy as an exercise in transformation, starting from the maieutic tradition of Socrates, with a focus on the function of the exemplarity of others in the process of shaping singularity. Next, the thesis of maternal parental exemplarity will be confronted by considering Spitz's studies on the affective deficiency of institutionalised children.
This theme will be developed from the perspective of Max Scheler's philosophical anthropology.

Didactic methods

Only part of the lectures will be video-recorded and made available on Moodle. However, an organic and coherent series of recordings will be devised, also incorporating material from other lectures and conferences, in order to provide non-attending students with an adequate introduction to the course. These recordings form an integral part of the programme for non-attending students.

Learning assessment procedures

The assessment of learning outcomes will involve the passing of a written or oral examination. The subject of the examination will be the selected texts from the syllabus and the topics covered in the lecture. Non-attendees will refer to the video recordings.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

In the assessment of the examination, particular consideration will be given to: 1) the possession of a thorough knowledge of the main specific topics developed during the course; 2) the ability to develop an autonomous and personal reflection, expressed in relevant and accurate language, on the theoretical implications of these topics.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

In the evaluation of the examination, particular attention will be paid to 1) a thorough knowledge of the main themes of the programme texts studied during the course ( points 12/30); 2) the ability to argue and develop an autonomous and original reflection on the theoretical implications of these themes ( points 12/30); 3) a command of the specialized vocabulary ( points 6/30).
