Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding
At the end of the workshop, the students will:
1. Know the Early Childhood Education system, the main regulations and the functions of the educator in ECEC (Early Childhood Education and Care).
2. Understand the role and posture of the trainee towards educational staff, children and families.
3. Understand the essential ethical issues of educational work.
4. Know how to use the tools of observation, journal writing and case study as resources for learning in an internship situation.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
At the end of the workshop, the students will:
1. Be able to analyze the functioning of the services in which the internship activity will take place in the field.
2. Develop awareness of personal motivation to work in a specific educational setting.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Approaching working methodologies: observation, planning, and documentation in early childhood education settings.
A brief legislative overview of the history of early childhood centers.
The National Guidelines for early childhood education services.
The Pedagogical Guidelines for the integrated 0–6 system.
Space as the “third educator”: materials, heuristic contexts, and the continuity between indoor and outdoor environments.
The value of the educational project and its implementation.
Building relationships with families.
“Caring for” as a core dimension of the educational profession.

Didactic methods

Experiential methods are planned to foster learning, reflection, and peer sharing, including:
Workshops
Small-group work
Individual assignments
Case studies
In addition, experienced professionals from early childhood education services will be invited to share their insights and testimonies as educators.

Learning assessment procedures

A self-assessment activity will be proposed, based on the course objectives, consisting of both an individual reflective component and a group project. The sharing of group projects and the final evaluations will constitute an integral part of the student assessment.
